SUMMARY: DISAPPEARANCE OF KRIS KREMERS & LISANNE FROON
==================================================

In April 2014, Kris Kremers (21) and Lisanne Froon (22), two young Dutch students, travelled to Boquete, Panama, to learn Spanish and volunteer with local children. On April 1, 2014, they set off to hike the El Pianista trail near the Baru Volcano accompanied by a local dog.

THE DISAPPEARANCE
--------------------------------------------------
The dog returned to the village later that evening without the women. After they failed to show up for a guided tour the following day, a massive search operation was launched involving local authorities, indigenous guides, and Dutch rescue teams with sniffer dogs. However, dense jungle conditions and severe weather yielded no initial clues.

THE DISCOVERY OF THE BACKPACK & EERIE EVIDENCE
--------------------------------------------------
Ten weeks later, a local woman found Lisanne’s backpack along a riverbank deep in the jungle. Inside, authorities recovered cash, passports, Lisanne's camera, and both of their smartphones—all in remarkably intact condition.

Analysis of the electronics revealed a disturbing timeline:

- EMERGENCY CALLS: Starting hours after their hike began, both phones made multiple attempts to dial emergency numbers (112 and 911) over several days, but none went through due to lack of signal.

- NIGHT PHOTOS: On the night of April 8, 2014—a week after they disappeared—the camera took 90 photos in near-total darkness deep in the rainforest between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM. Most were shots of trees, rocks, and a plastic bag on a stick, with one photo showing the back of Kris Kremers' head.

THE AFTERMATH
--------------------------------------------------
Months later, bone fragments belonging to both women were found along the Culubre River, along with Lisanne's boot containing human remains. Panamanian authorities officially concluded that the women likely got lost, suffered an accidental fall, or succumbed to dehydration and environmental hazards. However, the strange phone logs, nighttime photos, and missing physical evidence continue to fuel speculation and mystery surrounding their final days.
